If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother. Rather be openhanded and freely lend him whatever he needs.

Believe in the principle, but found out it wasn't good for me to give what they can do for themselves. I can share my experience, strength, and hope, but it doesn't help the newcomer to be codependent. I can be there as support, but I don't write out their Steps, or give advise, or tell them what to do. It is a program of suggestions, and the best I can do is live my program and hopefully they will want to do some of the things that kept me sober. They have to find out what works for them. The best thing I can do for them is pray and put them in their God's Hands.
