Blessings

Jesus taught us to ask the Father's blessings for ourselves and for others. Such prayers bear fruit because they increase our own love and faith. We ask for God's blessings, and yet, at every moment of our lives God's blessings continually touch us, just as sunlight touches the earth. If God's presence and God's blessings are already within us, we might simply pray to become more aware of what is already present. Our prayer would take the form of thanksgiving and gratitude for the blessings that we have. While we need to ask for things because Jesus taught us to do that, we would come to realize that God's blessings are a constant given. God's blessings become fruitful within us to the extent that we become aware of their constant presence and as we grow in the understanding of our dependence upon them.

I frequently ask for your presence, Lord, but I already have it. My asking makes me aware of what you wish to continue giving. And so now I ask you to increase my awareness of what always is. You are continually with me, and for this gift I give you thanks.

Focus Your Day
